Our Farm
The NC Farm Center for Innovation & Sustainability, or simply the NC Farm Center, is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that organizes practical learning demonstrations on the 6,000-acre Valentine Farm located in Cumberland and Bladen counties in southeastern North Carolina. The purpose is providing projects that show that protection of the environment can be combined with production of high-quality food crops and developing new agricultural and forest products for renewable energy.
Created by farm owners/operators, professionals and citizens in 2008, our goal is to demonstrate that farming and forest management can preserve natural resources in profitable ways. We also want to show that sustainable farming is compatible with and provides the basis for introducing new ways of producing marketable crops and forest products.
To support field learning and research on-site, we plan to design and build a state-of-the-art green learning and research facility on Valentine farm where students and others can interact over extended stays.
One of our strengths is applying our own experience to contribute to sustainable education. Once Valentine Farm was North Carolina’s largest commercial turkey operation. The process of converting Valentine Farm informs our projects for understanding sustainability and implementing demonstrations suited for the conditions of a working farm.
